OC with Kids
A full-day loop through Irvine that keeps children engaged from morning to late afternoon — animals, trains, and imaginative play.
- 1OC Zoo at Irvine Regional Park 9:00 AM
Start with the animals before the park gets busy. The zoo is compact — most families cover the full circuit in 90 minutes — leaving energy and enthusiasm for the rest of the day.
- 2Irvine Regional Park 11:00 AM
After the zoo, stay in the same park. Ride the miniature steam train, rent a pedal boat on the lake, or find a shaded picnic table for lunch. The playground near the park center has equipment for all ages.
- 3Pretend City Children's Museum 2:00 PM
A 20-minute drive from Irvine Regional Park, Pretend City is a child-scale city where kids run shops, hospitals, fire stations, and construction sites. Allow two hours minimum — they won't want to leave.
All three stops are in or near Irvine, so this itinerary avoids the freeway maneuvering that drains a family day out. Pack lunch from home or grab food at the Irvine Regional Park snack area and eat at the picnic tables under the oaks.
The OC Zoo opens at 10 AM most days; arriving at the park gates by 9 AM lets you get parked and walk in at opening. Check the Pretend City website before going — online booking is recommended and fills up on weekends.
